A VPN (virtual private network) allows secure external access to network resources internal to LNS.

VPN access is granted upon request. If the applicant has not previously had any relationship with INFN, their digital identity must first be registered in the INFN-users database. To request a VPN account, the user must submit a ticket through the support system. Once the request is approved, the user can access the VPN and therefore Laboratories internal network resources.

Upon specific request, it is also possible to configure the account so that the VPN client routes all connections, including those to third parties, through LNS, thus appearing with an INFN IP address. This feature is useful when you want to use network applications from home that only allow connections from specific authorized IP addresses.
